History Hunters On the Prowl
THE JOHNSON HOUSE
The 5th grade walked in the footsteps of the Freedom Seekers yesterday at the Johnson House. The Johnson House was a real stop on the Underground Railroad about 150 years ago! Even Harriet Tubman passed through the walls of this amazing National Landmark! Students explored the secret stairway to the "attic" and listened intently as guides told the stories of the rough journey from the South. I believe all walked away with a sense of awe and humility towards the Freedom Seekers. The students expressed feelings of appreciation for all of the freedoms and opportunities we have today.

History Hunters on the Prowl!
On December 7, 2012 the 5th grade History Hunters visted Cliveden.
Cliveden was the summer home fo the Chew Family. Benjamin Chew was one of the most important and wealthiest men in Philadelphia during the 1760's. The students explored the hard life of a patriot soldier during this time. They also learned about the loyalists and how choosing sides created friction among the colonists.
Cliveden fascinated us as we also discovered how George Washington lost the battle of Germantown because the British soldiers barricaded themselves inside the actual walls of Cliveden! Amazing history right in our own backyard!!

5th Grade History Hunters
From Mrs. Meier's 5th Grade Class of History Hunters: We began our first journey on the 4 part adventure. First stop was the Stenton House, home of James Logan, close friend of William Penn. The students enjoyed visiting the formal rooms of the home. They even re enacted a peace pact between colonists and Native Americans wherein they made and exchanged "wampum" The students then took part in some chores from the 1600's. They are super excited for trip #2, Dec. 7 to Clivedon.
