Ending On A High Note

June came to end with a quick blast of heat, some bitter-sweet goodbyes and lots and lots of big smiles.

Last week, our Kindergarteners participated in their Move-Up promotion ceremony as they became 1st graders, singing songs and winning lots of awards, our Kindergarteners displayed just how much they have grown over this school year.  Thanks to Mrs. D and Mrs. Roman for putting everything together. We also want to wish Mrs. D the best as she moves on to her new school, Henry!  We will definitely miss you.

www.schooltube.com/video/251eb86ac8bf4af8967cWe also said good bye and good luck to our 8th grade students.  Our Guest Speaker, Chancellor Fedullo spoke at our 8th Grade Graduation ceremony.  He reminded our students to always reach for their dreams, but to always work hard and to have a back up plan (just in case).  Each of these 8th grade students have left a profound #legacy at Dobson, and we can't wait to see and hear about all of their amazing accomplishments in High School and beyond.
Click here, to watch some highlights from our graduation ceremony, 8th Grade Luncheon and their trip to NYC!  Thank you to the 8th graders who shared photos with us.

Finally, we want to say good bye and best wishes to some fabulous Dobson Teachers that are leaving us this year.  Mrs. D. (DiMartino), Ms. Boyle, Ms. J (Johnson), and Ms. D. (Drelick).  We will miss each of you and hope that you continue to inspire, motivate and instill a love of learning in every student you work with, because that is the legacy each of you will leave at Dobson.

We wish everyone in the Dobson Community a happy, healthy, relaxing, fun and SAFE summer!!  See you in September!

Kicking June Off WIth A Bang!

The bright lights of Broadway were shining bright on Tuesday, as our wonderfully talented Dobson students sang and danced their way through 100 years of Broadway History. From George M. Cohan to songs from Grease and Frozen, our students enchanted both their peers and their parents!  For those of you who were not able to see this performance in person... we hope to dazzle your ears with a recording of our afternoon performance!
Click here to watch Part 1 of our performance! Click here to watch Part 2!
Click here to watch Part 3!

Then on Wednesday, 19 of our students traveled to our School District Building to attend an end of the year ceremony for their work with the Philly Ad Club this year.  We have been fortunate enough to welcome five advertising and marketing professionals into our school once a month.  This year, our culminating project was the creation of a commercial/public service announcement that not only featured our school, but a positive message for our students and the community.  Working with Mr. Scott, Mr. Mike, Ms. Denise, Ms. Lauren and Mr. Mike, our students worked hard to write the script, determining their target audience, rehearsals, and finally filming with a professional crew form PHL17.  We can't wait to share it with you!  Click here to watch our James Dobson School Public Service Announcement.

This year, our 7th grade students have worked with Ms. Turner and Healthy NewsWorks to create our school newspaper the"Fit Fin".  Check out some of our 7th graders that have been featured in a Healthy NewsWorks' video for this year.  Click here to watch!

Finally, no one can rain on our Dobson Olympic Parade!!  Our students competed with grace and speed on Friday afternoon, while enjoying an absolutely beautiful afternoon outside.  Both the Red and the Blue teams showed their amazing athletic talent and good sportsmanship as they took turns leading the competition. Pictures will be posted this week! If you attended, please share your photos with us on Instagram @dobsonschool645.

http://www.schooltube.com/video/10a11b7779c1424283de/

Congratulations to this year's Outward Bound team! During the week of May 19-23, eleven 7th and 8th Graders completed a 5-day backpacking, camping and rock climbing peer leadership course. Despite the rain and various other challenges, students had the experience of their lives!

Ms. McConnell is extremely proud of these individuals for their determination, willingness to overcome obstacles, and their newly attained leadership skills. This year's Outward Bound team consisted of Alexis F., Johnathon S., Kevin S., Seth W., Emma B., Emily C., Janaya F., Jenna G., Oumie S., Jacob S., and Emma S..

Dobson Celebrates Poetry Month

In celebration of Poetry Month, our students have been sharing their poetry on the morning announcements and in their classrooms.  Teachers have also been getting in on the fun, sharing their favorite poems on the announcements too!

Below is a fantastic poem, written by one of our students in room 202.  We couldn't let April end without sharing his wonderful and heartfelt work!

I Am From...
By: Daiqan R.

I am creative and quiet.
I wonder if I will be a cop.
I hear birds laughing at me.
I see a zombie chasing me.
I want my own bed.
I am creative and quiet.

I pretend to fly high in the sky.
I feel happy about getting a house.
I touch a hurting heart.
I worry about my grandmom passing.
I cry when my family hurts.
I am creative and quiet.

I understand that life can be good.
I say God is good.
I dream about toys in a big house.
I try to come to school.
I am creative and quiet.
